PUBLIC HEALTH

Washington State Suicide Prevention Plan
Washington State Department of Health
Project Overview
BvP led a comprehensive 18-month statewide initiative to update and revise Washington’s Suicide Prevention Plan. The process included crafting both the strategic framework and detailed implementation guidance, ensuring a comprehensive and actionable roadmap for suicide prevention across the state.
The project was built on a robust, multi-phase engagement approach, to ensure the perspectives of those most impacted by suicide shaped the plan's development. Engagement included:
- Key informant interviews
- Eight technical working groups
- Regional community workshops
- Focus groups with priority populations and individuals with lived experience
- Consultation with tribal nations
Throughout the project, health equity and cultural responsiveness were prioritized, ensuring alignment with national best practices and emerging research. The final product provides a comprehensive roadmap for suicide prevention that spans upstream prevention to crisis response, with specific goals, objectives, and measurable outcomes across four strategic directions. The plan also includes implementation tools, including a three-year action plan with specific metrics, timelines, and accountability measures
