PARKS + OPEN SPACE

South Park Community Center Sitewide Redesign
Seattle Parks and Recreation
Project Overview
inclusive and dynamic engagement process, ensuring that the voices of residents—especially the teens who use the space most—shaped the future of the South Park Community Center (SPCC). This sitewide study was an opportunity to authentically and meaningfully engage with community members to redesign one of South Park’s only open spaces and influence the design of the park.
Through a research-backed approach, the BvP Team analyzed existing conditions and provided evidence-based recommendations to improve health outcomes through thoughtful design changes. The BvP team also co-facilitated a racial equity toolkit process centered on the teens, to celebrate the neighborhood’s unique character, and solidify the community center’s role as a welcoming and vibrant third place. The result? A park that reflects community center’s role as a dynamic and important community third place
