PARKS + OPEN SPACE

Lake City Community Center Needs Assessment
Seattle Parks & Recreation
Project Overview
In April 2023, the former Lake City Community Center (LCCC) suffered significant fire damage, marking the end of an era for this vital community resource. Following the fire, the City of Seattle made a strategic decision to not only replace the damaged structure but to reimagine the LCCC as a cornerstone of public health and community resilience. The new vision involves developing a multi-use building that will house a state-of-the-art community center on the ground floor, complemented by multiple stories of affordable housing units above. To ensure the new facility reflects and responds to the service needs and priorities of Lake City community members, BvP was tasked with collecting and assessing input from hundreds of neighborhood residents, workers, local businesses, community leaders, and other stakeholders about what they would like the design and programming of the new LCCC to include. The input collected through BvP’s engagement efforts provided SPR with a deeper understanding of the community’s recreational needs and informed development proposals.
