Snohomish County Flood Risk Communication + Outreach
Snohomish County Surface Water Management
Project Overview
In partnership with NHC, BvP led a groundbreaking initiative to enhance flood preparedness among vulnerable communities in Snohomish County’s Stillaguamish and Snohomish-Skykomish river basins. Our data-driven strategy pinpointed high-risk populations and regions, ensuring that those who need support the most during flooding would receive it.
Through culturally responsive engagement—integrating community events, key informant interviews, and partnerships with trusted local organizations—we connected with county staff and residents to raise awareness of flood risk and begin designing solutions to strengthen local networks and empower historically marginalized communities.
Our work went beyond immediate outreach to lay the foundation for long-term flood resilience by providing multilingual, accessible preparedness materials and tailored implementation tools, with a special focus on areas where socioeconomic vulnerabilities intersected flood risk. This project wasn’t just about planning— but rather about action, equity, and lasting community resilience to ensure that every resident has the resources and support needed to face future floods with confidence.
