Seattle’s Tree Code Amendments + SEPA Process

Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI)

Project Overview

Seattle’s tree code aims to balance the City’s goals for expanding the urban tree canopy with the growth and density envisioned in its Comprehensive Plan. To support this effort, Broadview Planning designed and led a series of focused stakeholder meetings to gather feedback and recommendations on proposed policy changes, with particular attention to historic environmental justice considerations.

Following the engagement process, Broadview Planning collaborated with City staff to develop proposed code amendments, prepare the SEPA checklist, and guide the recommended regulatory updates through the legislative review process
