South Park Community Center Site Wide Master Plan (SPCC)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This sitewide study was an opportunity to authentically and meaningfully engage with community members to redesign one of South Park’s only open spaces and influence the design of the park with public health impacts emphasized. From the beginning, the South Park Community Center (SPCC) site-wide redesign has been rooted in a successful community involvement process that’s provided multiple opportunities to authentically and meaningfully engage with community members to redesign one of South Park’s only open spaces. Since 2016 the BVP Team, in partnership with MIG, has led this engagement process and provided the initial existing conditions report with design recommendations to enhance health based on best practices and peer-reviewed literature. This multi-step effort resulted in significant design changes that better reflect the neighborhood’s character, the perspective of the teens (the predominant users of the site), and the community center’s role as a dynamic and important community third place.
